Our Mission

The Tommy Strong Charitable Foundation was founded by Tommy Cox who lost his left leg in a boating accident in 2013. His recovery was aided in no small way by the kindness and generosity of so many and now it is time to pay it forward. Tommy lives his life without limits and this charity has been established to help people who have suffered traumatic, life-changing injuries live their lives to the fullest.

Tommy's Story

At the age of 10, Thomas Cox, a North Andover Massachusetts native, survived a horrific boating accident in 2013 which resulted in the loss of his left leg and severe damage to his right leg. Thanks to the actions of the Laconia Fire Department and the Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team, Tommy survived the accident and received world-class care at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Later he had procedures done at Boston Children's Hospital and received physical therapy from Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital where he learned to walk with a prosthetic leg. As a result of the incredible care and therapy provided by these institutions and also the generosity of so many, Tommy lives a full life with no limitations. A recent graduate of North Andover High School where he lettered in football and wrestling, he is enrolled as an undergraduate at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Immediately after Tommy's accident family, friends, co-workers and strangers banded together to support the Cox Family, and that was the birth of "Tommy Strong." Tommy now would like to pay forward the generosity and kindness shown to him.

Who We Help

Tommy Strong Charitable Foundation is committed to helping any recent physical traumatic injury survivors.

Aside from the trauma of a devastating injury, it can be overly expensive to obtain the medical equipment needed to live a life without limits. While some equipment may be covered by insurance, the reality is that what is covered is not nearly enough. What is covered is what is needed to get by, not what is needed to live a life without limits.

Tommy Strong Foundation is committed to financially assisting traumatic injury survivors. Accessibility to necessary medical equipment should not be a privilege, it is essential. We are committed to raising money for survivors to help them cover such costs. How the money is used is ultimately their decision, but should be put to covering medical equipment or costs.

In addition to providing financial support, Tommy Strong Foundation also seeks to create a community of survivors. Tommy Strong should mean to others what it meant to Tommy at the time of his recovery.
